The Moulin Rouge

On Monday, we went to the Moulin Rouge.  It is something that Rick has wanted to do every time we have been in Paris, but we've never been able to work it in. The building that houses this famous institution was built in 1885, and became a dance hall at the turn of the century.  The colorful dance shows, including the can-can, were immortalized by the famous painter, Toulouse- Lautrec.

When the kids were here, Chris tried to get our group reservations, but none were to be had.  This week it seems like a lot of the holiday tourists have departed, and we were able to get reservations.

We decided to do the dinner before the 9 p.m. show.  That may have been a mistake.  The dinner was mediocre.....except the dessert, which was lovely AND delicious.

Photography is strictly forbidden during the show, so Rick snapped some pics from the Moulin Rouge program.

The costumes and sets were over the top................

And the performances were spectacular.............although this girl swimming with live Burmese pythons made me a little crazy...........

After the show, we joined all of the other tourists standing on the Metro exhaust vent....a la Marilyn Monroe.

Okay, not exactly Marilyn Monroe..................

Fun night!
