My Mission Today!

Because we all know that every vote counts, and since I still cannot open my letter box in the lobby of the apartment............Rick sent my ballot "Poste Restante" (General Delivery).  It went to the major post office on Rue du Louvre.  I took a little trip down there on Monday just to see if it had arrived, and wasn't that lucky.  But that trip did teach me where the P.O. was, and which counter to go to when I got there.

So today I thought I would try again.  Although it POURED last night, today was sunny, and I realized an hour into the trip, warm. It is about a thirty minute, very pleasant walk.  I tried to time the trip so I wouldn't get there around noon, just in case they closed for the very important lunch.

When I got there, the post office was closed, but not for lunch.  If I understood correctly the computers were down.  They told me to come back in an hour.

So I had an hour to kill in a great location.  There are four cookware stores right around the corner from the post office and Rue Montorgueil which is a pedestrian street with all sort of foodie stores. I wandered through all four cookware stores and then stepped into the oldest patisserie in Paris, Stohrer.  A patisserie is a title and in order to be a patisserie, the shop must have a master pastry chef. This shop has been in existence since 1730 and it is said that baba au rhum orginated here.

There was a newspaper article displayed outside the shop that reported that Stohrer had the best eclairs in Paris. So I bought one to go.  I'm not really into the sweets all that much. I prefer to get my calories from bread and cheese, but I was pretty excited about this eclair.

When the post office finally opened............... I showed my drivers license and handed over 60 euro cents, and they gave me my ballot.

Then I rushed home to eat my eclair. I mean to vote.

And after I voted, I had my eclair.  Only half, it was very rich.

It was more attractive when I bought it.  I carried it around in a little piece of paper for over an hour.  It still tasted delicious

And after my treat.................I walked over to the main post office in the neighborhood.

Mission accomplished!
