Marché Bastille

On Sunday morning we stepped out of the apartment, walked 100 feet, and we were at the great open-air market called Marché  Bastille.

It's a large and well attended market that has traditional French and ethnic food stalls; in addition to clothing, accessories, household products, and art.  It was crowded, but we were so happy to be buying food to cook for ourselves after a month of eating in restaurants. We snagged some vegetables, fresh pasta and 1/2 of a prepared chicken for Sunday dinner. And Rick made a run to the neighborhood boulangerie for a baguette, because of course, we needed more bread.............

After the market, I took Rick to lunch at a U.S. themed restaurant (just to help him get acclimated back to the U.S.) that he had been wanting to go to for a hamburger, and then we took a long walk down the Promenade Plantée. The Promenade is built on a former railway viaduct and when you're up there it's hard to believe you are in such a huge city.  People of all ages amble the path  that's planted with a profusion of lavendar, rose, cherry and maple trees.

Did I mention that it is hot?  In the high 80's F. I've heard that this is the hottest end of September since 1895.   All of the Parisians are loving it because their warm weather clothes are clean, while mine are packed in a plastic bag for Rick to take back to the States.
