I was walking down a street in the Marais area, and in fact had just passed a shop called "Thanksgiving" which is full of American products, and "The Red Wheelbarrow", which is an English bookstore,
when two women came up behind me. I heard one say to the other (definite American accent):
"I just finished The Paris Wife. Don't bother! The author made her look like an imbecile."
Now that may be true, but I still thought the book was worth reading and I enjoyed it. I didn't say anything and just kept walking.
Of couple of hours later, I had an encounter with another American woman. I was coming out of the grocery store with two bags of groceries. She was entering with a little French Bulldog (of course!) and the dog had his paws out, resisting entry. She tried to drag him and then..............he pooped on the entry step and then right outside the door. "Oh my God!" (That's how I knew she was American). She grabbed a plastic bag from her sac and picked up the mess on the step and was depositing it in the garbage bag outside the store as I walked away. I didn't speak to her either, and I didn't wait around to see if she picked the mess on the sidewalk. I hope so!
